Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based for vibrant color)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (from the cupcake centers)
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tbsp red food coloring (for a vibrant, glossy red hue)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (adjust for a pale skin-tone effect)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red plant-based gelling agent (for puncture marks)
  • Red syrup or edible red gel (for 'blood' drips)
  • Straws (not edible)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, vinegar, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk until combined.
  4. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Once cooled, hollow out the centers of the cupcakes and fill with a mixture of red velvet cake crumbs, sweetened condensed milk, melted butter, and red food coloring.
  6. Prepare buttercream frosting by creaming softened butter with powdered sugar and milk. Add food coloring for desired skin-tone shade before frosting the cupcakes.
  7. Decorate with candy fangs and drizzle red syrup for 'blood' effects.
