  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 16 oz phyllo dough (thawed)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.5 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Optional: Semisweet or dark chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine chopped nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Layer 8-10 sheets of phyllo in a baking dish, brushing each with melted butter.
  4. Sprinkle half of the nut mixture over the phyllo layers, then add more sheets brushed with butter.
  5. Repeat with another layer of nuts and finish with more phyllo layers.
  6. Cut into diamond shapes and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Prepare the syrup by boiling water, sugar, lemon slice, lemon juice, honey, and optional vanilla extract until thickened.
  8. Pour the hot syrup over baked baklava and allow it to soak while cooling.
